Still no bail for PE doctor charged with shooting wife

Judgement on the bail hearing of the 50-year-old Port Elizabeth doctor who allegedly shot his estranged wife in August has been postponed to the 14th of October.

Mkhuseli Boto appeared before the Magistrates court on Thursday in a bid to be released on bail but faced yet another hurdle.

Magistrate Ramona van Vuuren told the court that there was insufficient information for her to rule on the matter.

She among other things requested a progress report from the investigating officer pertaining to the ballistics. Van Vuuren also said she needed information on the accused's medical record from a senior pharmacist at the St Albans Prison.

She added that she also would need information from Head of Hospital at the facility before ruling on the application.

Boto was arrested on a charge of attempted murder in August after he allegedly shot and wounded his wife in the head at their home Brighton Street in Summerstrand.

He allegedly locked himself in the bathroom and injected himself with an unknown substance after opening fire at his wife.

Police say the victim went with her sister to the house to fetch some of her belongings as they are currently in the process of getting a divorce.

The accused remains in custody.
