A 32-year-old traditional healer from Durban has been arrested on two charges of rape which reportedly took place in August and September this year.
Spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker says both victims are from Port Shepstone and were told by the suspect that they needed to undergo a cleaning ceremony at Durban South Beach.
He says the first victim met the traditional healer in a taxi en route to Port Shepstone who struck up a conversation by telling her that her family was under a "dark cloud" and that a traditional cleansing ceremony needed to be performed at her home.
Naicker says once this was done he convinced the family that the victim had to accompany him to Durban for another cleansing ceremony at the beach.
The victim says once this ritual was performed they went to the suspect's house in Fannin Extention in Claremont where she was given a "traditional concoction" to drink before she blacked out.
He says when she woke up she realised she had been raped.
Naicker says the second woman, aged 27, fell victim under the same modus operandi and also accompanied the traditional healer to the same beach in Durban to be cleansed.
She too was also given a concoction to drink and was locked in this house for several days until she managed to escape and inform the police.
Once the two cases were opened with SAPS they managed to lure the suspect back to Durban where he was arrested.
He will appear in the Pinetown Magistrates Court on Friday.
