The farmer who has been murdered near Steynsburg, has been identified.
A police spokesperson, Captain Ursula Roelofse, says the deceased was 45 year-old Brent Gibbons.
He was shot last night.
Roelofse says a farmer on a neighbouring farm was notified by Gibbons' wife, Willlemien, at around 8 o'clock on Sunday night that an intruder had shot her husband several times in the kitchen doorway, while he was on his way to switch off a water pump.
Captain Roelofse says as soon as the suspect saw Willemien, he shot her as well, before fleeing the scene on foot.
She was taken to a hospital in Port Elizabeth. She is in a high care unit and her condition was said to be stable.
A resident of a neighbouring farm said on Monday morning that she and her family were caring for the couple's three daughters, aged three, five and eight years.
