Eastern Cape police commissioner, lieutenant-general, Celiwe Binta, has issued a stern warning to people involved in violent service delivery protests.
This follows the arrest of eight people in Barkley East this week when municipal property was torched and protestors burned tyres and blocked street with stones.
General Binta says while the right to protest is a constitutional right, this does not extend to violent behaviour.
Eight appeared in court in Barkley East yesterday on charges of public violence and were granted bail of 200 rand each.
