Sterkstroom without power for four days

Residents of Sterkstroom in the Eastern Cape will reportedly take to the streets today to protest over a lack of electricity to the town since Monday.

Local resident, Ronel Opperman, told Algoa FM News on Thursday that locals are now completely frustrated over the town's power woes which has been going on for years.

She says residents are suffering losses everyday with little empathy from the Inkwanca Municipality based in Molteno which has been placed under administration.

"The people are going to Toy-toy today. This town is a mess. If we do approach the municipality we never get a response. They don't care and they make promises that never come to light" she says

Local guest house owner Juli Ley told Algoa FM News how the four-day blackout is affecting her business and others in the town.

"I am losing about R2 000 a night just in accommodation and people with shops have lost deep freezers full of meat. Whenever a guest books in and they hear there is no power, they drive the extra 50 kilometers to Queenstown" she said
