The Eastern Cape cabinet has condemned the disruption of government services in Sterkspruit.
The cabinet held a special executive council meeting on Wednesday to discuss the situation in Sterkspruit where it says members of the civic association have disrupted government services and intimidated civil servants into staying at home.
Mxolisi Spondo, the spokesperson for the office of premier, Noxolo Kiviet, says the Executive Council has called on all civil servants to return to work immediately.
"The Executive Council is calling upon all civil servants to return to work with immediate effect to provide the required services to citizens. Furthermore, law enforcement agencies have been mobilised to ensure that safety and security to government property and civil servants is guaranteed," he said.
Provincial police spokesperson, brigadier Marinda Mills, says they are maintaining a presence in the town.
