State says it was Reinhardt Leach who smothered Vicki

The state wrapped up its cross-examination of former school teacher and murder accused, Reinhardt Leach, in the ongoing trial into the murder of local woman Vicki Terblanche.

Prosecutor Advocate Marius Stander reminded Leach of the terrible things Vicki used to say when she described her estranged husband Arnold Terblanche. He asked if he now in hindsight agreed with Vicki's assessment, to which he replied yes.

Leach was then asked if he knew anything about a story about Vicki having Covid, to which he explained that they needed a story to tell Vicki's son so that he would not show up at her house.

Stander also asked what they did with the clothes Vicki was wearing when she was murdered, to which he replied it had been taken to the grave site and given to the man, Peanut, who dug her grave.

Stander put it to Leach that he was the person who smothered Vicki and not Dylan Cullis, which Leach said was not true.

Stander continued his argument stating that with Leach and Terblanche having direct contact discussing the murder plot, he was the one who had the most to gain from Vicki's death.

He also questioned why Cullis would move Vicki to the spare bedroom, in an attempt to save her life, stating that if they both wanted her dead, Cullis could have just smothered her while she was lying in bed next to him.

Closing arguments are expected on Thursday.
