State cancells bail of missing PE businessman

The state has cancelled the bail of missing Port Elizabeth businessman Amir Moosagie.

He was meant to present himself to court on Thursday for sentencing proceedings following his conviction last year on charges of fraud, forgery, corruption, money laundering and racketeering involving more than R3m.

The final order for the cancellation of Moosagie's R30 000 bail was made on Thursday.

Moosagie went missing on Christmas Day while on holiday in Port St Johns.

He was convicted with his co-accused and business partner, Desiree Jenkins, but she was exempted from the corruption charges.

NPA spokesperson, Tsepo Ndwalaza...

"When the bail is cancelled that bail is forfeited to the state in legal terms it means if that person is arrested he can go straight to jail when that warrant of arrest has been issued, and it will be difficult for him or her to get bail again, because there will still be this issue of him not appearing in court when he was required to and the warrant of arrest issued then its going to be difficult for him"
