The state has called for 33-year-old Port Elizabeth man, Frederick Gordon, to be found guilty of rape, kidnapping and attempted murder.
These charges relate to the brutal assault of his wife, Avril, two years ago, which left her hospitalised.
In his closing argument on Monday, state prosecutor Andre Kirshner said Gordon's version of the events was simply to deny it, despite compelling evidence from a medical specialist.
Kirshner says depite Avril's wounds being several weeks old, Gordon maintained that she sustained the injuries on the day of his arrest and that he was being falsly implicated.
Gordon's lawyer will present her closing statements on the 16th April.
