The Woolworths Group has confirmed that a team member of its Access Park store in Buffelsfontein Road, Port Elizabeth, has tested positive for the COVID-19 virus.
The Press Office told AlgoaFM News they were advised of the situation on Wednesday and that the staff member is now recovering in isolation.
National spokesperson Silindile Gumede said that as a precautionary measure, in line with their procedures for these type of incidents, the Access Park store was closed for extensive deep cleaning.
Gumede said all the staff who were in direct contact with the employee have been placed in self-quarantine for 14 days and that their health is being monitored by Woolworth’s specialist health services provider.
Should any individuals develop any symptoms during this period the Woolworths COVID-19 call centre will make all the necessary arrangements for testing.
Gumede said the deep cleaning procedure ensures that the Buffelsfontein Road store is safe for its employees and customers to work and shop.
The National Institute of Communicable Diseases (NICD) will also follow their own tracking process to identify anyone else who is required to take precautionary measures and they will contact them directly.
The store has since been CLOSED after a second staff member tested positive.
