Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium Chief Executive Chantal du Pisanie has expressed stadium management's shock at Saturday night's incident in which a member of the public was stabbed shortly before the end of the match between the EP Kings and the Golden Lions.
The 20-year-old spectator was stabbed in the back during an altercation shortly before 9pm in the West pavilion.
Du Pisani says the stadium's reaction officers responded immediately to the incident but that the suspect had already disappeared into the crowds.
The victim was transported via Gardmed ambulance to Greenacres Hospital, where he was admitted for further treatment.
Du Pisani said the weapon, a pocket knife no larger than an average cigarette lighter or lipstick container had been recovered at the scene and handed to the police on site.
Both the Stadium Management and EP Kings condemned the incident, saying they strongly denounce any violence at the stadium, and that this kind of activity would not be tolerated.
