St Francis bridge resurfacing postponed to Wednesday

The resurfacing of the temporary bridge over the Sand River at St Francis Bay has been moved to Wednesday.

Work was due to start on Monday but this was postponed because of weather concerns.

Officials say the bridge will be closed between 8am and 5pm on Wednesday.

Nigel Aitken of the St Francis Bay residents association.

" This obviously has to be done before the holiday makers arrive, I know it is an inconvenience but unfortunately we have to get this done. We have had more accidents on the bridge over the weekend, apparently a head on as well, and the bridge is quite unsafe in it's current condition" Aitken said.

Meanwhile, Aitken says many people with their families are visiting St Francis Bay to look at all the burnt out houses.

He's appealed to people to stay away.

" It is becoming a bit of a problem for a lot of residents because it's like an invasion of their privacy and we actually appeal to people to not come down here, particularly from now on with the school holidays starting. I know it is on interest but people should actually take into consideration other peoples feelings", he said.
