St Francis Bay protesters dispersed by police

Disgruntled Sea Vista residents in Zwelitsha and Kosovo started protesting on the R330 at the traffic circle at the entrance to St Francis Bay all the way down to the Bridge on the Kromme River on Saturday morning. .

The director of the the St Francis Links, Jeff Clause, told AlgoaFM news that protesters were burning branches and other objects and that they were essentially cut-off.

Police Warrant Officer Basil Seekoei said riot police had used stun grenades to disperse some 500 protesters.
Shortly  before 9am - the R330 had been re-opened to traffic.

Seekoei said police would continue to maintain a strong presence in the area and that those breaking the law would be arrested.

On Friday,  the St Francis Chronicle reported that residents had still not been addressed by a representative from the Eastern Cape Provincial Council on their long-standing grievances over lack of housing and poor service delivery.

A protest organiser told the Chronicle that Saturday's protest would continue for as long as it took for a representative from the Provincial Council to come and meet them.
