The SA Navy's Hydrography ship SAS Protea and the frigate SAS Isandlwana will be open for viewing to the Port Elizabeth public over the weekend.
The vessels docked at the PE harbour earlier this week for the celebration of World Hydrography Day which takes place on Saturday
Hydrography is the meaurement and description of sea features in order to improve safety of navigation.
Hydrographer, Captain Abri Kampfer says the visit to Port Elizabeth serves as an opportunity for hydrographers to showcase the importance of what they do..
"It's an opportunity for hydrographers to showcase the importance of hydrography. The more people who come visit the ship the better so they can see what we do for South Africa. Knowbody else does this in SA, it's only the South African Navy so the charts that we produce is used worldwide." says Kampfer
The vessels will be open to the public between 10 am and 3pm on Saturday and Sunday free of charge.
