St Albans warders attacked by inmates

Three more prison warders have been attacked by inmates at St Albans prison outside Port Elizabeth.

Eastern Cape provincial commissioner, Nkosinathi Breakfast, says the warders suffered minor cuts during the incident in the maximum correctional centre on Tuesday morning.

Earlier this year another warder was attacked and stabbed by an inmate.

These incidents also come after a massive brawl inside the prison last month which left three prisoners dead and scores more injured.

Commissioner Breakfast says they will apply all measures to deal with the attacks on prison warders.

"The situation at St Albans is currently under control and our specially trained security team members have been brought in to the centre to manage the situation," said Department spokesperson, Zame Feni.

"We are hard at work trying to find ways to manage the situation, but within the confines of the law."
