A group of holiday makers have survived a harrowing experience in heavy swells in spring tide conditions off Plettenberg Bay.
The NSRI reports that it despatched its duty crew at the town on Monday after being alerted to injured passengers aboard a charter boat.
NSRI Plettenberg Bay medics treated a 5 year old girl from France for back pain and two men, aged in their 50's and 60's, also for back pain.
A further 5 passengers went by their own transport to be checked out by doctors after sustaining minor injuries.
A short while later, the Plett NSRI launch its sea rescue craft to go to the assistance of a 23 year old man from Groblersdal, who had been injured while sandboarding at Robberg Island.
The patient was treated for a fractured shoulder, facial injuries and neck pain.
Due to rough ocean conditions the decision was taken not to risk removing the patient from the area by sea rescue boat.
The Red Cross Air Mercy Services then dispatched the Skymed Rescue helicopter which airlifted the patient to a Knysna hospital where he's reported to be in a stable condition.
