Port Elizabeth police are investigating a case of attempted murder following a shootout in Newton Park just after 1 o'clock on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson, Captain Sandra Janse Van Rensburg, says two men in a Fiat Palio stopped at the robots between Ring and Langehoven street when a Mazda pulled up alongside them.
The occupants of both vehicles recognised each other and shots were fired from the Mazda.
Janse Van Rensburg says a man in the Fiat Palio tried to reverse when his passenger jumped out of the vehicle and was shot.
The driver of the Palio then took out a licensed shot gun and returned fire.
The occupants of the Mazda managed to make a get away in their vehicle .
