The funeral of notorious Eastern Cape criminal Sakhumzi Mvoko took place in Zimbane Valley in Mthatha on Friday.
An eyewitness said proceedings got underway with a spinning display from about thirty cars doing donuts when Mvoko's body arrived at his home.
Champagne was also popped while they made their way to the cemetery.
The 30-year-old Mvoko and fellow inmate Yandisa Bhila were killed in a shootout with police at the Mthatha High court while attempting to escape from custody last week.
The eyewitness said that throughout the proceedings a group of about 100 men, believed to be Mvoko's friends from across the country, were singing his praises and vowing to continue where he had left off.
Mthatha police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Mzukisi Fatyela, said there was a strong police presence monitoring the funeral.
