Three people, including a six-year-old girl, were killed and three others were injured in a collision between two cars on the R-61 near Libode in the Eastern Cape.
The Provincial Transport Department said the accident happened at around noon on Friday.
Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said that a Toyota LDV, with five occupants collided with a Mercedes Benz travelling in the opposite direction.
He said the drivers of both vehicles, a male in the Mercedes and a woman in the Toyota, as well as the child were declared dead on the scene.
Binqose says it is alleged that speeding and driving under the influence of alcohol were the main contributing factors for the accident.
