PORT Elizabeth police divers with the assistance of the NSRI and the fire department are searching for a spear fisherman who is feared to have drowned off Humewood beach.
Police captain Stanley Jarvis says the two men went spear fishing opposite Happy Valley near the 9 pillars at about 11 o'clock on Wednesday morning.
Jarvis says the man, who cannot be identified yet, failed to re-surface after a lengthy dive.
His friend went back to look for him but couldn't find him and raised the alarm.
Diving equipment believed to belong to the missing man has been recovered.
