SPCA in Stutterheim left crippled following violent protests

A female inspector at the SPCA as well as the receptionist in Stutterheim is receiving trauma counselling after protesters threatened them and ransacked the premises a week ago.

A spokesperson Kathy Scholes says the protesters at first threatened to burn the ladies in the house and then turned their attention to ransacking and looting the office building.

She says the police had to come and rescue the women who also lost all of their personal belongings.

She says staff and volunteers from King Williams Town SAPS returned later to rescue the animals.

Scholes says only a goat and turkey died in the attack.

She says the SPCA has been left crippled by the incident and can no longer pay staff or purchase food for animals.

They have asked the public for financial assistance.

Their banking details are:

Amahlathi SPCA, FNB Acc 6240-2085-931
