The Garden Route SPCA has issued a warning to Mossel Bay residents following the mysterious deaths of several pets over the past fortnight.
Garden Route SPCA manager Frieda Jansen van Rensburg said the carcasses of four dogs and two dead cats were found in the Heiderand area.
Jansen van Rensburg said burglars often use poisoned meat to neutralize dogs before they enter a property.
She said pet owners should be alert and be on the lookout for food packaging in their gardens.
Jansen Van Rensburg said that the SPCA is investigating the matter.
