A 58-year-old man from Somerset East has been found guilty in the Makhanda High Court of raping a 6-year-old girl in bushes behind the town’s local clinic.
Provincial police spokesperson, Brigadier Thembinkosi Kinana earlier said that the incident happened in September last year after the suspect lured the child away from her friends.
He allegedly took her to a bottle store where he bought alcohol before the alleged incident occurred.
Enraged community members caught the man red red-handed.
The suspect’s identity, known to Algoa FM News, cannot be revealed as he has had an apparent close relationship with the family.
Closing arguments are expected to be heard on 30 March, followed by sentencing.
