Somali national stabbed amid ongoing riots

A Somali national who was stabbed amid the ongoing violence plaguing Booysens Park in Port Elizabeth's northern areas, has died.

Police said the man, who's identity has not yet been released, was stabbed several times.

He died later in hospital following the attack outside his home in Olivier Street in Greenfields, Booysens Park, on Thursday morning.

A police spokesperson said shots had also been fired in the street.

The motive for the attack is not yet known but police provincial management said they "are certain" the incident was not linked to the riots which are now into the the third day.

Large groups of people continued on Thursday morning to attack and loot foreign owned spaza shops in and around the Booysens Park area.

Kassim Ali, of the Somali Association of South Africa, said situation was spiraling out of control.

"There were a number of shops looted and a number of properties damaged, a number of vehicles were also damaged. The situation is turning serious ....," he said.
