US soapie star, Katherine Kelly Lang of Bold and the Beautiful fame, paid a visit on Wednesday to the Early Bird Day Care Centre at Sakhasonke Village in Nelson Mandela Bay's Walmer Township.
The Centre is one of four Ironman Foundation legacy projects that will benefit from an injection of $100 000 in partnership with IRONMAN 4 the Kidz in the Port Elizabeth region.
Lang, better known by her character's name, Brooke Logan, spent time playing with the toddlers at the creche, accompanied by, among others, former Proteas bowler Andre' Nel.
Speaking to Algoa FM News, Lang said it was incredible to be there with the kids.
"I am really excited to be here with the Ironman Foundation and for Women For Tri Advisor. It is amazing to be part of an organisation that helps the kids."
Lang, who was swamped by fans wherever she went, thanked everyone for the support and for the support for the work of the Ironman Foundation.
"We're doing so much while we're here. The community has been so supportive to all of us so thank you Port Elizabeth. It is important that we give back. We are here to help".
Former, South African fast bowler Andre' Nel who was also in the visiting party to the Early Bird Day Centre said: "I've been doing Ironman 4 the kids since 2012. I've been fortunate enough to represent them again this year in World Championship. It's a great opportunity for us to come with the Foundation to see what the money is spent on."
The Acting Executive Director of the Ironman Foundation, Sarah Hartmann, explained the legacy projects that will benefit from the approximated 1.4-million injection.
"We are restoring the school cottages of the Eastern Province Child and Youth Centre and after the race athletes like Kelly and myself will paint the cottages and meet the kids," Hartmann said.
She further announced that a new "learn-to-swim pool" would be built at the Centre to assist local kids with swimming lessons while the Ironman Foundation will also purchase a new school bus for a local school.
