"I want justice to prevail for my son, whichever way."
These were the words of Brett Andrews, the father of murdered Bay policeman, Constable Callan Andrews, outside of the Gqeberha Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
Andrews made this statement shortly after his son's alleged killers Damian Brookes and Chadwin Visagie told the court they did not intend to apply for bail.
This was despite Brookes saying that he would be appointing a private attorney, and Visagie saying that he would be representing himself, during last week's court proceedings.
Constable Andrews was brutally gunned down in Helenvale on New Year's Eve, after pushing a police vehicle that had broken down.
Andrews described his son's alleged killers as cowards and said the decision to abandon bail affirms that.
"They are cowards because my son could not have seen the attack coming."
The bereaved father added that he finds solace in knowing that there wasn't a hit on his son specifically, as he recently learned that it was a random attack and it could have been anyone.
The alleged killers Damian Brookes and Chadwin Visagie will appear in the Gqeberha magistrates court on the 5th of March.
