The Eastern Cape Transport Department said one person has died, and 11 others were injured in a head-on collision involving a minibus and a vehicle in Highgate in East London.
Department spokesperson, Makhaya Komisa, says the driver of the passenger car died on the scene of Wednesday morning’s accident.
The accident occurred near the Highgate Hotel between a minibus and seven-seater Suzuki vehicle.
The driver died on the scene.
Komisa said nine taxi passengers who were injured were rushed to various hospitals.
Police have opened a culpable homicide docket for further investigation.
