A six-year-old boy playing in a Port Elizabeth street was one of two people caught in a gang shooting on Sunday.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Priscilla Naidu, said that boy sustained several gunshot wounds in the incident in Fitchards Street in Helenvale.
“A 40-year-old man sustained one gunshot wound”, Naidu said.
“It is alleged that the boy was at his grandmother’s house and was playing in the street when the shooting occurred. The boy sustained several gunshot wounds while the 40- year-old man sustained one gunshot wound,” she said.
“The older victim was walking home to Standford Road when a suspect appeared in the alleyway and started shooting at a fleeing gang member. Both victims were struck by stray bullets.”
“They were transported to hospital and are reported to be in a stable condition,” Naidu said.
Naidu said that police were investigating two charges of attempted murder.
Anyone who can assist police in their investigation is asked to contact D/Const Sergio Mack at SAPS Gelvandale.
All information will be strictly confidentially, said Naidu.
