Six taxi drivers denied bail in "Go-George" protest

Bail has been denied to six of the 11 taxi drivers who were arrested after the violent protest in George, in which buses worth R15 million were torched.

The men were arrested on charges of public violence and intimidation, and appeared in the George Magistrate's Court on Thursday morning.

They were denied bail after the magistrate saw video footage that linked them with the crimes, saying that they might intervene with state witnesses.

The other five suspects were released on bail of R1000 each.

They will appear in court again on 28 October.
