Six people, including four children, were killed in accidents reported on Eastern Cape roads in the past 24 hours.

The Eastern Cape Department of Transport said three children died when an SUV with three occupants collided with a Ford Ranger bakkie, ferrying seven passengers, including four children.

He said the accident happened on Sunday on the road between Uitenhage and Graaff-Reinet.

Binqose said that “it is alleged that driving under the influence of alcohol and non-compliance with road signs” may have contributed to this accident.

Police also said that a learner was killed on Monday when a mini-bus taxi ferrying children from Hankey to Jeffreys Bay overturned outside Hankey at around 7.30 AM.

Spokesperson, Sergeant Majola Nkohli, said a case of culpable homicide was under investigation.  No further details were released.

Meanwhile, two men died and two women were injured in an accident reported on the R-75 between Port Elizabeth and Despatch also on Monday morning.
