Six people have been killed in an alleged incident of mob justice in Lady Frere in the Eastern Cape.
Police spokesperson, Brigadier Tembinkosi Kinana, says members responded to an alert by a community member about four young men being burnt alive in an open veld in the Zingqolweni locality before 6 pm on Wednesday.
He says as they were processing the crime scene, a second report came in about two more bodies of men who were found hanging in a nearby forest in the Maqhashu Administrative Area.
Kinana says another man managed to escape the attack and was subsequently rushed to a nearby hospital to receive medical attention.
He says the motive for the murders of the men who are aged between 21 and 27 is not known at this stage and no arrests have yet been made.
Police have activated a 72-hour action plan to bring the killers to book.
