Six people have been killed and three sustained injuries following a head-on collision on the R58 between Lady Grey and Aliwal North on Monday.
A spokesperson for Provincial Traffic Unathi Bhinqose says the accident, involving a Kia Sedan and Mazda, happened at about 8.30 pm.
He says the Kia, with four occupants, was travelling from Aliwal North, while the Mazda, travelling from Lady Grey with six occupants, including a child, collided head-on.
The drivers of both vehicles died on the scene as well as another man, woman and a child.
The injured were transported to a hospital in Aliwal North.
The names of the victims have not yet been released.
Bhinqose says the accident could have been avoided if one of the drivers had just been patient.
