The ANC in the Eastern Cape has extended its condolences to the families of four learners who drowned in a river in Mount Fletcher on Wednesday.
Algoa FM News has learnt that six learners were swept away by strong currents while trying to cross the Freyistata river after school.
Police search and rescue teams recovered the bodies of three boys and a girl aged between six and eight.
Two other boys, believed to be six and eight, are still missing.
ANC provincial spokesperson, Gift Nqondi, said that it has directed all spheres of government to give the families of the learners all the necessary support.
