Six arrested for public violence in Uitenhage


 
Uitenhage police have arrested six people in the past 24 hours for incidents of public violence in Kwa Langa.

Police spokesperson, Basil Seekoei, says a group of people burned tyres and stoned cars. He says the unrest continued for several hours between 8pm and midnight.

Warrant Officer Seekoei says a task team has also been established to investigate unrelated cases.

He says the arrested protestors will appear in court on Wednesday on charges of public violence.

Seekoei says the situation in the Kwa Langa area is calm but tense, adding that police will maintain a strong presence in the area.

Police urged the public on Monday to come forward with any information on those who are responsible for the violence.
