The Grahamstown-based Unemployed Peoples' Movement says it will hold a protest outside the Makana Municipal offices on Wednesday, calling for the dissolution of the Municipality.
The call comes amid ongoing water shortages and reports that the Municipality is effectively bankrupt.
The spokesperson for the Unemployed Peoples' Movement, Ayanda Kota, says the situation in Grahamstown has become a national scandal.
Meanwhile, the SA Municipal Workers Union, says workers have not been paid by the Municipality.
Samwu regional secretary, Clifton Booysen, says they tried to engage Makana management this morning to find out where the problems were.
"We believe there is no money in the municipality. This morning workers wanted to engage with management to find out what went wrong. They were nowhere to be found"
Booysen says Samwu's aware that an administrator has already been put in place to assist the Makana Municipality.
