East London Police are maintaining a strong presence in Bonza Bay road, Beacon Bay where protesters have been disrupting traffic since early on Thursday morning.
They've barricaded the intersection across the road from DIY retailer Burmeisters with burning tyres, and other material - including cement blocks.
The residents of the nearby Nompumelelo township are protesting after their illegal electricity connections were removed on Monday.
They're demanding an audience with the Mayor of Buffalo City.
The general manager of Burmeisters - Ryan Bradfield - says they've closed their doors for security reasons.
