A self-confessed gangster is still under cross-examination in a civil lawsuit underway in the Port Elizabeth High Court.
231 prisoners at St Albans outside Port Elizageth are suing the Department of Correctional Services for damages claiming that they had been tortured during a mass assault after a warder was killed in 2005.
Convicted killer, Simphiwe Mbena, who attacked and stabbed prison warder, Babini Nqakula, told the court on Thursday that parts of the record of his criminal trial was a lie or that his version had been incorrectly recorded by court officials.
Algoa FM's Raahil Sain is watching the case.
Advocate Hilton Epstein for The Department of Correctional Services put it to Mbena that he was lying then under outh , and he is still not telling the truth today.
Mbena also denied making a statement to a correctional employee, who was flown from Pretoria to conduct an investigation in July 2005 after the murder had taken place.
The self-confessed gangster said that he made no such statement , nor did he know the investigator.
Epstein also asked Mbena if he was telling the truth now because he wanted money from the state.
The gangster responded by saying that he is a believer now and he took guidance from his church.
