The NSRI has issued an alert following an increase in shark activity along the coastline at Cape St France and St Francis Bay.
Spokesperson, Craig Lambinon, said in a statement on Saturday that the alert also extends up to Tsitsikamma as well as the Port Elizabeth coastline.
He said a number of sharks, believed to be White sharks, have been spotted in the surf line at Cape St Francis main swimming beach.
"Bathers, paddlers, and surfers are urged to be cautious in the area," he said.
Lambinon said this was an urgent cautionary appeal to bathers and surfers specifically at Cape St Francis's main swimming beach that extends for the duration of this weekend.
He said increased inshore shark activity is normal at this time of the year.
