Human Settlements Minister, Tokyo Sexwale, has presented the keys to a Port Elizabeth man who acquired his home in terms of government's Finance Linked Individual Subsidy Programme.
In terms of the programme, government provides the guarantee for the deposit on a home-loan for people who earn between R3 500 and R15 000 a month.
Speaking at the Walmer Links housing project in Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday, Sexwale said the subsidy programme is aimed at people who earn too much to qualify for RDP housing but too little to obtain a morgage loan.
"We are assisting banks so that they can help. RDP is just a free house and nobody wants to be receiving free things forever. This is an alliance between the banks, government and families" he said.
