Severe storm hits Amathole District in the Eastern Cape.

The Amathole District Municipality will be conducting damage assessments across a large part of the district after a severe storm swept through the area on Sunday.

In a statement on Monday, ADM said several local municipalities were affected.

“Damage to property, motor vehicles, the Cathcart Hospital, and electricity cables has so far been reported,” said spokesperson Nonceba Madikizela-Vuso.

She said operations at a number of public institutions including ADM water services will be affected.

Madikizela-Vuso said ADM disaster teams were dispatched to assess the extent of damage in the District.
