Several motorists will be spending the Christmas weekend behind bars after being arrested for drunken driving.
Port Elizabeth police said that three motorists were arrested in Walmer and Lorraine on charges of drunken driving on Friday.
Meanwhile, Uitenhage police said that a metro police officer was doing routine checks for drunk driving when he stopped a motorist who was suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol.
“Whilst interviewing the driver another drunk driver drove into the vehicle. Both were arrested for drunken driving, “ a police statement said.
They will all appear in court next week.
Metro police and the SAPS also issued fines for overloading and four drivers were fined for not having licenses.
