Seven women arrested during a service delivery protest in Uitenhage on Wednesday, are due to appear in court on Thursday on charges of public violence.
They were arrested as police used stun grenades to break up the protest by residents who face eviction from a piece of land in Lapland.
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality served eviction notices on around 300 people on Tuesday, sparking the protest.
Municipality spokesperson, Mthubanzi Mniki says the residents form part of a broader housing plan being rolled out by the Metro in that area.
They have six months to vacate the piece of land that they had occupied illegally.
