Police in Port Elizabeth arrested seven students who were protesting at the Nelson Mandela Bay University on Tuesday.
NMU spokesperson Zandile Mbabela says they were arrested for being in direct violation of a standing interdict, which was read out and enforced on Monday.
She says Management was in a meeting with the SRC delegation when a small group of students disrupted classes and intimidated staff and students on the North and South campuses.
Mbabela says they are committed to following through with the evidence they've gathered to ensure the necessary disciplinary action is taken against the arrested students.
The University has deployed security reinforcements and will continue patrolling with the aim of securing the campuses and lecture venues for staff and students.
The Student organisation DASO took responsibility for Monday's protest action in which classes were disrupted and entrances to the University blocked.
The EFF Student Command had threatened a shutdown of NMU on Tuesday.
