Seven police officers based in Ekurhuleni will make their first court appearance tomorrow on charges of assault, aggravated robbery and malicious damage to property.
Spokesperson for the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) Robbie Raburabu says it is alleged that the members on Friday went into a restaurant in Nigel where they assaulted managers.
He says they are also accused of destroying some property including a digital video recorder.
Raburabu says the officers allegedly stole R250 000 in cash and 150 boxes of cigarettes.
He says four members are part of the Ekurhuleni Infrastructure Unit while three others are members of Crime Intelligence in Benoni.
IPID says the members handed themselves over to the Benoni police station.
They are expected to make their first court appearance on Monday.
