Seven people were killed in a multi-vehicle accident on the R61 outside Aberdeen early on Monday morning.
The Eastern Cape Transport Department said a fully-loaded mini-bus taxi heading to the Western Cape crashed into a stationary recovery vehicle at the site where a broken-down bus was being repaired.
Spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, says the taxi overturned killing six people, including the driver.
He says the 7th victim died on arrival at hospital.
He said the deceased were two women and a man as well as four children, two boys and two girls.
Binqose says 18 other people were injured and taken to Aberdeen and Midlands Hospital in Graaff-Reinet for further medical treatment.
