Seven killed in two crashes in EC


Seven people were killed in two accidents reported in the Eastern Cape on Sunday afternoon.

Police spokesperson, Captain Mali Govender, said that five people were killed in an accident on the R67 between Grahamstown and Port Alfred at around noon.

She said four other people, including an infant, were injured in the accident which occurred about 13km’s outside Grahamstown.

“Witnesses at the scene allege that one vehicle overturned and the second crashed head on with the first vehicle,” Govender said.

She said the injured passengers were taken to hospital.

Meanwhile, Govender said that two people were killed and four others injured in a head-on collision between two cars on the R67 between Port Alfred and Alfred at around 2.30pm on Sunday.

“Police are investigating cases of culpable homicide,” she said.
