The Eastern Cape Transport Department says seven people were killed in accidents on Sunday.
Department spokesperson, Unathi Binqose, said four people were killed when a car and a truck collided at around 10.30 pm on the N6 in the Penhoek Pass near Jamestown.
He said four of the five occupants in an SUV were declared dead on the scene while a 9-year-old child sustained severe injuries.
The truck driver slightly injured and taken to Frontier Hospital in Komani for further medical assistance.
Meanwhile, Binqose said three people were killed in a three-vehicle accident in Gqeberha (PE) at Fiveways.
“Three occupants from VW Polo, two men, and a woman, were declared dead on the scene while two people from the Honda and one person in the Ford Ranger sustained severe injuries.
“The injured were taken to St Georges Hospital for further medical assistance. Cases of culpable homicide have been opened for each of these incidents,” he said.
