Seven by-elections take place in the Eastern Cape today

Seven by-elections take place in the Eastern Cape on Wednesday.

The Independent Electoral Commission says by-elections will take place in Lady Frere, Mount Fletcher, Bizana and Ntabankulu.

Probably the most eagerly contested by-elections will take place in Wards 15, 26 and 55 in Nelson Mandela Bay, where all major political parties have fielded candidates.

The wards became vacant following the deaths of three ANC councillors in an accident earlier this year.

By-elections are also taking place in several other provinces.
