EC policeman arrested for carjacking

An Eastern Cape policeman has been arrested for carjacking.

The 27 year old constable was arrested while on duty at Hlababomvu police station near Port St Johns on Tuesday.

He has allegedly been linked to six members of a syndicate who were arrested last Spetember for a spate of carjackings in Bizana and Mount Ayliff.

Provincial police spokesperson, captain Ernest Sigobe, says its alleged that the policeman's service pistol was used in the commission of the crimes while its further alleged that he had supplied a blue police light to the gang.

The policeman will be appear in court soon.

Sigobe says the other syndicate members face three counts of carjacking as well as other similar cases in Kwazulu Natal.

Eastern Cape police commissioner, major-general Celiwe Binta, has applauded the Mount Ayliff Cluster Task Team for the arrests.
