Seven men, accused of being part of a robbery and hijacking syndicate, have been arrested in Mdantsane, East London.
Police spokesperson, lieutenant Nkosikho Mzuku, says the gang's spree began on Friday when they first robbed several school children at gunpoint, taking their cellphones.
He says they then shot and wounded a 34-year-old Zimbabwean, taking his cellphone before later hijacking a vehicle belonging to a Somali shop owner.
The vehicle was later recovered.
Mzuku says the suspects were arrested on Monday and will appear in court on Tuesday on charges of armed robbery, hijacking, attempted murder, and possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
